Accessibility

The site is a rough outdoor venue with low accessibility. There is accessible parking available - if needed, please contact Baroness Enkara of Rivenstar to arrange accomodation.

Attention

For those who will be bringing children not their own: There are TWO forms that you will need to bring for each child. They both need to be signed by the child's parent or legal guardian. ONE MUST BE NOTARIZED per Indiana law.

1) This form needs the notarization and should be kept with the child at all times: https://www.sca.org/docs/pdf/treatminor-notary.pdf

2) This form is the usual Minor Waiver: https://www.sca.org/docs/pdf/chldwaiv.pdf.

PLEASE have both these forms filled out and signed/notarized where appropriate for each child you will be bringing that you are not the parent or legal guardian of. This requirement is out of our control and the children affected will not be allowed to attend if they are not completed properly before arrival. Thank you.

Arts & Sciences

There will be youth rapier fighting in the arena, tie dying pillow cases, and candle making. There will be a water balloon fight at the end of the day.

Brewing Competition: For more information, see our Food tab. All participants must be over 21.

"Messy" Crafter's Green

Because our site is entirely outdoors, we encourage crafters to bring activities or displays that are sometimes avoided because they are difficult to clean up. Sawdust? Spills? Maybe a little stinky? No problem. (Please, nothing toxic.) BYO tables and chairs.

Youth Friendly Classes

All of the following activities are youth-friendly! Adult supervision is still required.

  • Wet felting

Participants will craft either a pouch or a ball, perfect for juggling practice or as a cat toy. Wet felting is messy but completely kid safe.

  • Calligraphy

Participants will learn to use calligraphy pens or markers, write their names (or have the teacher write it for them) and color a bookmark to take home.

  • Tie Dye

The dyeing method now known as Tie Dye originated independently in multiple ancient cultures around the globe. We will discuss some of these historical techniques and then make our own modern interpretations. One white cotton pillowcase or large T-shirt will be provided, or bring your own clean, light colored linen or cotton fabric items to tie dye, no larger than a T-shirt or hand towel. Youth participation encouraged, with adult supervision. If you bring your own items to dye, they must be washed and dried prior to dyeing!

  • Candle Dipping

Come practice the ancient art of wax candle making. We will discuss basic materials and methods, and we will hand-dip taper candles in hot liquid wax. Caution, HOT WAX. Youth welcome, adult supervision required.

  • Coloring Pages

Water Fight: Once everyone is hot and sweaty from a long day outdoors, we will cool off with a good old-fashioned water fight! Kids vs grownups, rattan vs rapier, or every person for themselves, it's up to you.

Brewing Competition:

We will have the official brewing competition/tasting shortly after Slamdown Fest (2pm). Please bring your brews, wines, or cordials. We would love it if it was candy themed and brightly colored!

There will be two divisions: Period recipe & Non-period recipe

If your beverage was made with a period recipe, please bring a card or label the bottle with the time period, country or region of origin, and a citation reference source.

For Non-period recipes, just label your bottle or write on a card the ingredients you used, especially if it has candy in it.

We will break it down further between beer, ale, wine, cordial later depending if there are lots of entries.

Rivenstar will provide 1 oz plastic shot glasses, water, palate cleanser, spit cups, napkins, ice, etc.

If your entry needs to be cool to drink, please bring a bucket or pan so we can add ice to keep it chilled.

There will be a general popular vote and if we have experienced judges onsite, a more formal vote. Winners of the best tasting brew will be announced at evening court.

Questions? Contact: THL Katrin Grimsdottir - Brewing Contest Coordinator

Also let us know if you would like the leftover bottles donated to our evening tavern. Thank you!

Dinner

There will be a weenie roast and leftovers from lunch at the fire pit
